PicoWay laser presentation

On October 8, 2014, Candela, a global leader in aesthetic lasers, announced the launch of its new PicoWay™ picosecond laser at the 23rd European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) in Amsterdam. PicoWay is the world’s first dual-wavelength laser—532 and 1064 nm—that utilizes patented PicoWay technology to create short picosecond pulses for the removal of color tattoos and pigmented lesions. International availability of the PicoWay laser begins in October 2014.

The PicoWay picosecond laser has the highest peak power and the shortest pulse duration of any picosecond laser for aesthetics on the market. The combination of these two factors creates the strongest photomechanical action, which ensures the safest and most effective rupture of tattoo ink particles and melanocytes in pigmented lesions. Revolutionary PicoWay technology is integrated into the proven, reliable Candela GentleLase Pro platform, delivering superior performance and low cost of ownership.

“After years of investing in PicoWay research and development, Candela is proud to introduce the most advanced picosecond laser. Its advanced technology further demonstrates Candela’s commitment to developing innovative aesthetic devices that enable physicians to provide the best possible treatments for their patients,” said Amit Meridor, CEO of Syneron Candela.

“We invite physicians at EADV to visit our booth (#18) to see and experience the PicoWay laser’s peak power and ultra-short pulses, which have been clinically shown to reduce the number of tattoo removal treatments with improved results.”

Dr. Tina Alster, clinical professor of dermatology at Georgetown University Hospital and one of the investigators in the PicoWay laser clinical trials, said, “With the shortest pulse on the market, the PicoWay laser requires lower fluences and delivers faster clinical results than traditional Q-switched lasers. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser wavelength can safely treat any skin type and, along with its reduced fluence, minimizes thermal damage to the skin. I believe the PicoWay picosecond laser will further revolutionize tattoo removal.”
