Candela acquires Danish company Ellipse
On September 5, 2018, Candela Corporation announced the acquisition of Ellipse, a Danish company that manufactures premium IPL systems and laser platforms for a wide range of aesthetic treatments.
“The acquisition of Ellipse will strengthen Candela’s position in the multi-functional device segment and provide our customers with a full range of cosmetology and aesthetics equipment. Candela’s best-in-class lasers and Syneron RF technologies complement the proven IPL technology respected by aestheticians worldwide,” said Jeffrey Cruz, CEO of Candela. “Ellipse’s platforms will expand our treatment offerings with a multi-functional device with multiple applications. We expect Ellipse’s equipment to strengthen our product portfolio, as it aligns with our commitment to scientifically proven technologies backed by consistent clinical results.”
Ellipse’s core product is the multifunctional Nordlys platform, which combines an IPL system with exclusive Selective Wavelength Technology (SWT®), an Nd:YAG laser for vascular lesions, and a fractional 1550 nm laser handpiece for skin rejuvenation and resurfacing.
“We are pleased to join forces with Candela to bring our high-tech platforms to market, leveraging Candela’s extensive global presence and commitment to clinical excellence, quality, and innovation,” says Jacob Kildegaard Larsen, CEO of Ellipse.
“As a physician who uses the Ellipse IPL platform and considers it a foundational technology for dermatology practice, I am delighted that Candela can now offer a full range of light, laser, and RF solutions to physicians and patients worldwide,” says Jill Weibel, MD, a longtime Candela user, dermatologist, medical director, and founder of the Institute of Dermatology and Laser Therapy in Miami, Florida.
“Candela, Syneron, and Ellipse are recognized by aesthetic practitioners worldwide as leaders in their categories. The combination of Candela and Ellipse opens a new era in the development of devices that enhance treatment effectiveness,” concludes Christina Derickx, MD, a Luxembourg-based specialist in laser surgery and cosmetic dermatology.
